- Bairrada

The Bairrada Wine region goes from Águeda to Coimbra, up to the seaside dunes.
Bairrada has a smooth climate, temperate by the Atlantic Ocean. Although wine production exists since the X Century, it was in the XIX Century that it became a quality wine producing region. Cultivated in clayey soils, it produces wines full of colour and rich in tannins that give it longevity. The white grape varieties used are Bical and Fernão Pires, and the red grape variety Baga. Recently the region´s DOC wines can have Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Pinot Noir grapes.
Generally speaking, Bairrada wines can age extremely well, more than ten years, giving rise to a fine bouquet maybe of honey, smoke and spice.
